AIIMS Bibinagar holds sickle cell anaemia awareness, screening camp for tribal women

In a bid to raise awareness and promote screening for sickle cell anaemia among tribal women, the Departments of Community and Family Medicine and Pathology of AIIMS Bibinagar organised a health awareness and screening programme at the Anganwadi centre in Govind Thanda village on Thursday.

Senior resident Dr. Alekhya, junior resident Dr. Akhil, house surgeons, nursing officers, medical social workers and support staff from AIIMS Bibinagar played a key role in organising the programme.

The camp drew wide participation from ASHA workers, antenatal mothers and elderly women. Attendees were screened for blood pressure, random blood sugar, complete blood profile and sickling tests, with medicines distributed to those in need.

A health awareness talk by Dr. Alekhya and a team of interns drew strong engagement from the participants, focusing on prevention, detection and management of sickle cell anaemia.
