The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) has suspended the remaining members of the Zimbabwe Rugby Union (ZRU) National Executive Board and the National Executive Committee.
It says they have been suspended from all forms of rugby administration and activities in Zimbabwe including but not limited to holding office under the Zimbabwe Rugby Union.
“This follows a resolution of the Board of Commissioners of the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) passed on the 9th of September 2025. The suspension is in terms of section 30 (1) (b) and (c) (i) as read with section 19 (a), (b) and (c), and paragraph 23 of the second schedule of the Sports and Recreation Commission Act (Chapter 25:15) and shall remain effective until the next Zimbabwe Rugby Union elections,” the statement said.
“As a registered National Association, the ZRU has failed to conform to section 29(8)(b) of the Sports and Recreation Commission Act.
The SRC issued a show cause order on the 4th of September 2025, which resulted in the resignation of 8 members of the ZRU National Executive Board. No representations were filed by the remaining members of the ZRU National Executive Board, hence the SRC invoked section 30 of the Sports and Recreation Commission Act,” the communique continued.
The SRC says it will advise the nation on the strategic direction of ZRU.
The move comes on the back of Zimbabwe qualifying for its first World Cup since 1991.
The suspended board was elected in 2024.
