A signalling fault near Inverness is causing major disruption across Highland and north railway services.
Cancellations and delays are hitting journeys this evening (Tuesday, September 9) between Inverness and Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen.
Although Network Rail has managed to resolve the issue, first reported around 6pm, ScotRail and other operators are still trying to get services back on track.
Engineers sent to the scene were able initially to resolve the problem, but there was then a reoccurrence.
While some services have been cancelled, passengers on trains near to or approaching Inverness have been left stranded on board carriages, in some cases for around an hour.
