“He had at the time of his being locked up, he had been engaged with trying to negotiate something that was more workable for him.”

“I can confirm that, indeed, an accountant was writing to us on his behalf the position of the accountant was basically that we should not be taxing on gross. Now business tax is a tax on your gross income. His challenge is that he does, he has not properly structured how his business does business with other businesses. So if you hire subcontractors, you need to structure your business in such a way that monies are paid to your subcontractors.”
“We advised the accountant of this, but the accountant’s position was that we should not be charging on gross. We advised the accountant that this has been taken to court. A court order has been made and as such we need to follow the process.”
“We have not heard back or we did not hear back from that accountant. I think our last correspondence would have been probably August, early August.”

Michelle Longsworth, Director General – BTS
“Jules from a personal perspective, I will say it is I don’t want to send anybody to court in my capacity personally or in my capacity as director general. The intention is never to send anybody to jail.”
“So it it is it is a sad situation that we have to reach this level, to, to send anyone to court, whether it’s a small taxpayer or, or a larger taxpayer.”
“So it’s very sad that we have to reach this. This is not something that is easy to do.”
“But we are guided by the law. We are guided by the actions that we must take to ensure that everyone contributes their fair share.”
