Tamil cinema legends Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan are all set to share screen once again. The Thug Life has confirmed the same at SIMA 2025. However, since then fans have been waiting for the announcement. And now during an event in Chennai, Kamal Haasan shared a major update about the film.
At SIIMA 2025, Kamal has confirmed that they are acting together again. Today, 123 Telugu also reported that Rajinikanth revealed a major update on the film. He said, “Yes, we are working on a project, which will be produced by Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI) and Red Giant Movies.” When asked about the director, he said no final decision had been made yet. It is worth mentioning here that Kamal and Rajinikanth have worked together in films like Apoorva Raagangal, Anthuleni Katha, Moondru Mudichu, Avargal, Thappu Thalangal, Ninaithale Inikkum and Thillu Mullu.
What Kamal Haasan Said
Asked if fans could expect a film with Rajinikanth, Kamal said, “We don’t know if it’s a Tharamana Sambavam (wonderful occurrence) but it’s good if the audience likes it. If they’re happy, we’ll like it. Otherwise, we’ll continue trying. This was long coming. We were separate because they gave one biscuit to both of us. But the half biscuit makes us both happy, so we’ll come together.”
No rivalry, only respect
The veteran actor made it clear that there has never been a rivalry between the two. “It is you all who thought/created the competition. We don’t have any competition between us. It’s important that we got the chance to do this. He is like that, so am I. It might be a surprise, business-wise, but we feel at least now it’s happening. We always wanted to produce each other’s films,” he added.

The actor was last seen in Thug Life, which was released on June 5. It is a Tamil-language gangster action drama helmed by Mani Ratnam. Released in multiple languages, the film brought together a powerhouse cast featuring Kamal Haasan, Silambarasan TR, Trisha Krishnan, Joju George, Ali Fazal, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sanya Malhotra, Nassar and Rohit Saraf, among others in pivotal roles.

The actor was seen in Coolie. The film boasts an ensemble cast featuring Nagarjuna Akkineni, Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, Sathyaraj, Aamir Khan, Rachita Ram and Reba Monica John. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie is currently streaming on OTT starting today. The film is available to watch in Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada dubs and can be accessed not only in India but also in over 240 countries and territories across the globe.
