Ugandan government rallies behind Moil rally team ahead of African Rally title charge

Uganda last had an African Rally title twenty-six years ago. Charles Muhangi (late) and Stephen Byaruhanga stormed to success in 1999, becoming the country’s only continental champions.

Now, the history books could be rewritten with a title for Uganda.

Yasin Nasser and Ali Katumba head to Tanzania with very realistic chances of being crowned 2025 African Rally Champions.

To realize that, Uganda’s sports regulatory body, the National Council of Sports (NCS), has extended help to the team to facilitate their charge for the African Rally title.

The crew’s flight tickets, accommodation and the rally car transportation were all catered for with funding from the sports body.

“First, I would like to thank the Government for supporting all sports in Uganda. We know it is not enough support, that is why we call up the private sector to come support such teams and advertise with them.

“I have read a few records about the Moil Team, and I believe they will make it,” said Milton Chebet, the NCS Assistant General Secretary.

The Moil Team is on its third attempt at the ARC title.

Nasser and Katumba, in a Ford Fiesta rally2, head to Tanzania, leading the ARC with an eight-point lead over Kenya’s Samman Vohra.
