‘I already proved that I could be the best’

'I already proved that I could be the best'

Quinn Callahan has officially closed the chapter on his competitive Dota 2 career, leaving behind a legacy that few in the esports world can match.
At just 26 years old, the Gaimin Gladiators midlaner explained in a heartfelt 10-minute YouTube video that his decision came after achieving what he had set out to prove: that he could stand among the very best in the world. With that goal accomplished, he admitted the drive to continue sacrificing personal time for professional glory had faded.
“I had already proved I could be the best and proved that we could be the best,” Quinn shared, speaking candidly about the cost of countless hours spent practicing and the missed time with family and friends. “So the fire to endure the misery and endure the countless hours and missing birthdays and weddings and spending time with my family and friends stopped feeling worth it to me.”
The turning point was his extraordinary 2023 season, where Gaimin Gladiators swept all three Majors and placed second at The International, a feat that cemented both Quinn’s and the team’s place in history. That year became the defining moment of his career and ultimately gave him the peace of mind to step away on his own terms.
He revealed that thoughts of retirement lingered through 2024, but by August 2025, weeks before The International, he had already recorded his farewell message, demonstrating how carefully he considered the decision.
While Quinn’s competitive journey ends here, he made it clear that his story with Dota 2 is far from finished. He expressed genuine excitement for what lies ahead, particularly in content creation and talent work. “I look forward to doing something that isn’t so time-consuming and allows me to still be a part of Dota because I still want to be a part of the game,” he explained.
His commitment to sharing knowledge through in-depth guides and professional-level analysis highlights a new role that still contributes to the community while allowing him to embrace a healthier lifestyle.
Quinn’s departure carries immense significance for North American Dota 2. He consistently showed that players from his region could compete at the highest level, inspiring countless aspiring competitors. His accomplishments, multiple Major titles, and unwavering top-tier performances establish him as one of the most successful NA players in the global Dota 2 scene.
The announcement follows Gaimin Gladiators’ surprising withdrawal from The International 2025, adding a bittersweet note to the timing. Yet, the way Quinn chose to bow out demonstrates maturity and self-awareness.
Rather than risk diminishing his achievements, he leaves as a player who reached the summit and walked away while still on top. For fans and peers alike, Quinn’s retirement is both the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter that will continue shaping the Dota 2 community.
