A group of courageous on-call firefighters from Tyndrum are preparing to tackle a charity 5k challenge – whilst wearing their full gear. The team from Tyndrum Fire Station are gearing up to take on the Run the Runway 5k at Oban Airport next month in an effort to generate vital funds for The Fire Fighters Charity. Members of the crew are training hard in preparation for the challenge on Friday, October 24. They’ve established a fundraising goal of £500 for the endeavour, but have already exceeded that figure, collecting more than £1,300. An online donation page has been established for contributions. On the site, the team explained: “On Friday, October 24, at 8pm under the runway lights, a team of slightly mad, definitely brave on-call firefighters from Tyndrum Community Fire Station will be lining up at Oban Airport for Run the Runway. “But we’re not just running any old 5k. We’ll be doing it in our firefighting kit – the thick trousers, the jacket, the helmet. Trust us, the kit’s not built for running. It’s hot, it’s heavy, and it’s probably going to hurt.” Click here for more news and sport from the Stirling area. They continued: “The Fire Fighters Charity is there for us and our families when we need it most. Whether it’s physical recovery, mental health support, or a helping hand through tough times, they’re always there for the fire service community. Now we want to give something back. “We’re not the fastest runners. In fact, some of us are just hoping to make it over the finish line without collapsing in a sweaty heap. But we’ll be digging deep, pushing through the pain, and hopefully crossing that finish line together – because the cause is worth every step.” The Fire Fighters Charity supports the fire and rescue community by providing physical, mental, and social wellbeing services for firefighters or ex-fire fighting personnel. The crew from Tyndrum added: “We can’t thank everyone enough for the support so far – every penny raised helps The Fire Fighters Charity continue their incredible work. “Keep cheering us on as we prepare to tackle the 5k at Oban Airport in fire kit on October 24, it’s going to be hot, heavy, and a little bit painful – but so worth it.” To view their fundraiser, click here .
