Children Explore Quantum Computing At KidZania Fukuoka

The program introduces the basics of quantum mechanics-based computing, which is already being used in cutting-edge research and AI development and is expected to see future applications in fields such as medicine and weather forecasting. At the venue, a sculpture-like model helped explain the machine’s structure and operation, with RKB reporter Yuka Wada noting it looked like something that could be displayed in a museum.

Participants learned the mechanisms and architecture through puzzles and models. A high school student said the model “looked like a champagne tower,” while an elementary school student said they wanted “to try solving difficult calculations quickly.” Miho Suzuki of Fujitsu said the hope is that “this computer may be able to do amazing things in the future,” encouraging children to freely expand their ideas.

Organizers say the event aims to spark interest in cutting-edge technology among young people. The workshop runs through September 23rd.
