Massive fire halts all work at Novelis aluminum plant: All work has halted at the Novelis aluminum plant in Scriba after a large fire Tuesday night damaged the facility’s hot mill and roof, company officials said. The factory employs 1,200 workers, placing it among Central New York’s largest employers. The company doesn’t have an estimate of how long it will take to reopen the plant, a Novelis spokesperson said Wednesday night.
Judge: Syracuse officer cannot be held liable for fatal Father’s Day shooting: A federal judge ruled Wednesday that a Syracuse police officer cannot be held liable for fatally shooting a man nine years ago, even after a jury found she used excessive force. The ruling was issued in a civil lawsuit brought by the family of the man shot. The officer had previously been cleared of any criminal wrongdoing.
