This year, Tokyo has demonstrated a high calibre of competition in the men’s 400m race. In the heats, we saw an average heat winning time of 44.3 seconds with the quickest of the lot being Jacory Patterson who won heat 4 with a time of 43.9 seconds. South Africa’s Zakithi Nene also clocked a quick lap with a time of 44.1 seconds in heat 2.
In the semi-finals, Botswana’s Busang Collen Kebinatshipi recorded the quickest time yet at 43.61 seconds to win semi-final 2. In the same race, Jacory Patterson fell short of the pace as he placed fourth with a time of 44.19 seconds. However, Zakithi Nene continued to perform as he won semi-final 1, followed by Botswana’s Lee Bhekempilo Eppie. In semi-final 3 it was yet another Botswanan that led the way as Bayapo Ndori won, clocking in at 44.21 seconds.
