The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Tamale Central in the Northern region, Prof. Alidu Mahama Seidu, has submitted his nomination form to Ghana’s electoral management body, the Electoral Commission (EC), to contest the area’s by-election scheduled for Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
Prof. Seidu secured a landslide victory over eleven (11) contenders in the NDC’s parliamentary primaries held at the Alhaji Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium on Saturday, 6th September 2025, due to the demise of the party’s Member of Parliament for the area, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who died in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
He polled 840 votes out of a total of 1,511, with his closest challenger, Abdul Hannan Gundado, securing 536 votes.
Meanwhile, the Tamale Metro EC Director, Anaba Samson, disclosed that at least four other candidates representing the All People’s Congress (APC), Liberal Party of Ghana, People’s National Convention (PNC), and an Independent candidate have picked forms to contest the seat, but have yet to submit to register their interest to contest.
The closing date for submission of nominations is today, Wednesday, September 10, 2025.
