Continuing their action against persons who have failed to appear in court in criminal cases, the Dakshina Kannada police have arrested Ahmed Gajani, 39, of Kozhikode district in Kerala, who had failed to appear in a court in Bantwal in a criminal case for seven years.
Gajani was among five persons booked by Vitla police in Dakshina Kannada (Karnataka) for transportation of animal waste in a goods tempo from Kozhikode and dumping it by the roadside in Alike village of Bantwal taluk on July 10, 2018.
The police had arrested accused no. 5, Mohammed Ziauddin Ansari, and filed a chargesheet. The Additional Civil Judge and JMFC Court, Bantwal told Ansari to pay a penalty of ₹1,500 for the offences under Sections 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection), 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) and 278 (Making atmosphere noxious to health) of Indian Penal Code.
The court had issued non-bailable warrant against accused no 4 (Gajani) and three other accused — Mohammed Rafiq, Sowfi and P.V. Masoof.
On September 16, the Vitla police secured Gajani from an autorickshaw stand in Kozhikode. He was produced in court, which released him on bail, police said.
Meanwhile, Ganesh, 41, an accused in two cases of house break theft registered in Bantwal Rural police station in 2016 and 2017, appeared voluntarily before Additional Civil Judge and JMFC, Bantwal court, on September 17.
The court had issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) as he had failed to appear in court in the two cases since March 1, 2024. On September 17, Ganesh voluntarily appeared in court along with another accused Sunil. The court withdrew the NBW but imposed a penalty of ₹200 in each of the two cases.
