The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has revoked the accreditation for three postgraduate programs at the Institute of Development & Technology Management (IDTM) in Cape Coast, citing violations in the mode of delivery.
In a letter dated Wednesday, September 17, 2025, and signed by GTEC’s Director-General, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, the Commission explained that IDTM was running its PhD, MPhil, and MA programs in Development Studies as weekend courses, despite having received accreditation only for regular weekday delivery.
GTEC stated that accredited programs cannot be altered or repackaged for different formats, such as weekend or sandwich programs, without prior approval.
As a result of this violation, GTEC has revoked accreditation for the affected programs and issued the following directives to IDTM:
Withdraw all admission letters issued under the unauthorized weekend delivery format.
Cease all new admissions into the PhD in Development Studies.
Submit documentary evidence confirming compliance with these directives.
Provide a comprehensive teach-out plan for current students to ensure their education continues without disruption.
IDTM has until October 17, 2025, to submit the teach-out plan, which will be monitored by the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Additionally, both UCC and KNUST have been instructed to immediately terminate any collaborative admissions arrangements with IDTM.
GTEC has warned that failure to comply with these directives will result in regulatory sanctions. However, the Commission noted that IDTM may reapply for accreditation if it wishes to offer the programs in a weekend format in the future.
