Unregulated Abortion Pills Causing Women's Health Crisis | Opinion

A young Texas mother was carrying her baby girl, who she had already named Joy. The child’s father wanted her dead. The mother wanted her to live. The text messages went back and forth:”I’m going to be able to get the 2 drugs needed to discontinue the pregnancy. They can be safely taken at home without medical supervision and without record,” he wrote.”Stop right there,” the mother replied. “Don’t buy anything.” “Slow your roll.”Then came the betrayal. Earlier this year, the mother sipped a hot beverage, unaware the child’s father had laced it with abortion pills. That night, she was doubled over in pain, hemorrhaging. She lost her daughter that night. Now she is suing the online pill seller, its founder, and the father for wrongful death. Her story is a devastating example of how dangerous these drugs are not just for women, but for the children they are designed to kill. Here is the terrible truth about the abortion pill: no matter how it is taken, and no matter the complications, the pill’s intended purpose is always to kill a living, growing child. That is not a side effect. It is the product’s design. Every time it “works,” a son or daughter is dead. The abortion pill, mifepristone, followed by misoprostol, is not the “safe, empowering” option the abortion industry markets it as. It is chemical violence that takes the life of an innocent human being and often sends the mother to the ER.New insurance claims data show that one in ten women who take these drugs suffer serious complications such as ER visits, surgeries, or dangerous infections. That is not “rare.” That is a public health crisis. Why is this happening? Because under the Biden administration, the FDA tore down nearly every safety regulation surrounding the drug. Required in-person doctor visits are gone. Required ultrasounds to rule out ectopic pregnancies are gone. Mandatory reporting of complications is gone. Follow-up care is optional. These decisions were not science. They were dangerous politics. And the result is horror. Women who’ve been told that ending their pregnancy will be “just like a heavy period” instead find themselves in agony, bleeding alone in their bathrooms, passing the tiny bodies of their children into the toilet, and wondering if they are going to die.Samantha was 21 when she took the pill. She was promised “mild cramping.” Instead, she endured “some of the worst pain [she had] ever felt,” followed by hours of bleeding and the shock of seeing her dead baby. For two years, she battled denial and depression before she found healing.Linn has a similar story. A worker at Planned Parenthood told her she would pass tissue and have some cramping. “That was a lie, I passed a whole baby in a sac. I will never forget that image,” she said. “I won’t stay silent against abortions.”These are not rare experiences. They are the natural and inevitable consequences of an industry built on killing. The abortion pill is designed to end the life of a child, and it gambles with the mother’s health every single time.Planned Parenthood’s website compares these drugs to Tylenol claiming they are similarly safe. That is a lie. In reality, these pills can cause hemorrhage, sepsis, incomplete abortions, emergency surgery, and death. And they can be and have been slipped into a woman’s drink without her knowledge. It is time to act. The FDA must not only reinstate the full safety protocols it dismantled; it must go further. It must pull its approval for the abortion pill entirely. This drug is lethal for children and dangerous for women. Congress and state legislatures should investigate and hold the FDA accountable for ignoring overwhelming evidence of harm. The Texas case clearly illustrates what is at stake. A father, determined to end his own daughter’s life, slipped abortion pills into the drink of a woman who wanted her baby. The pills did what they were designed to do. Joy is gone. Unless we act now, countless other mothers and children will meet the same fate.Lila Rose is the Founder and President of Live Action and the host of the Lila
