2025 edition of Diaspora Summit slated for Dec. 19

THE 2025 edition of the Diaspora Summit is sched-uled to take place from December 19 to 20 at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

Officially launched in Accra yesterday, the summit is expected to be opened by President John Dramani Mahama and will pro-vide a platform for dialogue and partnership between Ghana and its diaspora community.

It will be under the theme: “Re-setting Ghana: The Diaspora as the 17th Region.”

Launching the event, Deputy Chief of Staff, Ms Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, reaffirmed gov-ernment’s commitment to deep-ening ties with Ghanaians abroad, describing them as an integral part of the nation’s development.

“This Summit is a testament to Ghana’s vision of transforming our collective strength into a force for progress. Our brothers and sisters abroad continue to shape the image of our nation, invest in our economy, and transfer skills, knowledge, and networks,” she said.

She added that the Summit would go beyond dialogue to drive practical outcomes in invest-ment, innovation, and education, stressing that the Mahama-led administration was creating a con-ducive environment for diaspora investment and nation-building initiatives.

“Ghana, the Centre of the World, is ready for business. Your government is working to build an environment where your invest-ments are not only safe but impact-ful, helping accelerate growth, cul-tural exchange, and development,” Ms Addo assured participants.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, also announced visa-free entry for all diaspora participants attending the Summit.

He further revealed that five prominent individuals, Wode Maya, Lady Dentaa Amoateng, Rocky Dawuni, Anita Erskine, and Ibra-him Mahama would be honoured with diplomatic passports for their contributions to the African diaspora.

Mr Ablakwa said the Ministry had also restored the Bureau for Culture, Linguistics and Tourism, in recognition of culture’s pivotal role in shaping African identity.

The Summit is expected to strengthen bilateral relations and harness the diaspora’s contribu-tions towards Ghana’s economic and social transformation.
