Two Members of Parlia-ment and a few parlia-mentary staff on Tues-day visited the premises of the Street Academy, a sports and culture organisation in Accra.
The academy houses street children and other brilliant but needy children and are offered formal education at the cost of the academy.
Others learn technical and vo-cational skills as well as sports for those with the interest.
Tuesday’s visit to the academy falls in line with the ‘Bringing Parliament Closer to You’ cam-paign instituted by the house and operating with the hashtag #TogetherWeLegislate.
The team was led by Mr Jerry Ahmed Shaib, MP for Wei-ja-Gbawe Constituency, and Nii AshIe Kotey, MP for the Odododiodoo Constituency.
The day also coincided with the birthday celebration of the Founder and Director of the academy, Ataa Lartey.
Interacting with the children, the MPs explained the key role played by the legislature in the Ghana’s democratic dispensa-tion, informing them they were there to serve the people who elected them into office.
The children were allowed to ask many questions that were answered by the MPs and the accompanying staff.
