Shoppers have been urged to check a Woolworths nappy brand after larvae of the invasive Khapra beetle were discovered inside packets sold across Australia.
The recall affects Little One’s Ultra Dry Nappy Pants – Walker Size 5 (42 pack), which are imported from overseas.
The Federal Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry confirmed the larvae discovery and warned the beetle poses a serious threat to Australia’s grain and plant industries.
The Khapra beetle, first detected in NSW on September 7, is not established in Australia but is considered one of the world’s most destructive pests.
While it does not pose a major health risk, contact with its larvae can cause skin irritation and allergic reactions.
Authorities stressed no other nappy brands or sizes are impacted, and Woolworths has begun pulling the affected products from shelves nationwide.
Woolworths will also ensure that future imports of the product are tested and treated to remove the beetle.
Customers should not use the nappy pants or throw them and their packaging in the bin.

The beetle can cause some skin irritations but is not a threat to human life. It is, however, a threat to the Australian grain industry if it spreads
Anyone who bought the affected nappy pants should seal them and their packaging in a bag to prevent the pest spreading.
A spokesperson from Woolworths said the DAFF has advised customers not to return the product to their stores.
‘This product is supplied to us through Ontex, who manufactures the products overseas and imports them to Australia,’ the spokesperson added.
‘As soon as we became aware we acted swiftly, according to directions from DAFF, to remove the product from sale, quarantine it and commence an investigation with the DAFF and Ontex.’
Woolworths said concerned customers should direct their questions to DAFF which said on its website that if someone finds the beetle they should call 1800 798 636.
