Bandra-Kurla Complex, popularly known as BKC, is one of Mumbai’s biggest business and financial hubs that is home to major companies, luxurious hotels and high-end residences. It is located between the railway stations of Bandra and Kurla. While the area is considered upscale, a Reddit post recently brought attention to the struggles people are facing there, especially those who travel from far-off areas.
In the post, the user warned people about taking up jobs there because of the daily commute difficulties one can face if they do not live nearby.
‘Don’t Ever Take Job At BKC’
In the post, the user explained the difficulties clearly, saying, “Don’t ever, ever take a job in BKC unless you live in Bandra, Khar, Santacruz or Vile Parle, or near any Metro stations.”
The main concern is transport. The user mentioned that public buses like BEST often get caught in heavy traffic. Even private vehicles, such as cars and bikes, also face the same traffic problems. Autorickshaws, on which many rely, can be unpredictable as well because they charge high fares or refuse to go to certain destinations.
The Redditor also noted how office timings can make commuting even more stressful. “Your day will start with useless frustration if your workplace is strict about punch-in timings. If you get a very good salary, then you might consider it. I have seen people rushing to catch trains and overloaded buses. Some have no choice, so they adjust,” the user added.

Redditors Share Their Traffic Nightmares
The post gained significant attention online as many others shared their experiences and frustrations related to the area’s traffic and transport facilities.
One user pointed out infrastructure issues, saying, “BKC’s whole transit planning feels like a giant afterthought. Cycling lanes in the middle of nowhere, pod taxi dreams, and still no proper mass transit backbone. Share auto mafia and BMC’s ‘one more lane’ obsession killed what could have been a solid hub. Honestly, trams or even a proper BRT could have changed the game.”
Another shared, “I live near BKC. Still, I’d not take a job there.”
“True that, decades ago, BKC was a dream job destination for people in the MMR region, but now it’s just chaos. Many people I know who work there say—only join if you have your own vehicle, the company allows late marks, and provides fuel or conveyance allowance. Otherwise, better stay away,” read another comment
BKC vs Bengaluru: A Commuter’s Reality Check
A former Bengaluru resident highlighted the intensity of traffic in both cities.
“I used to live in Bengaluru and complain about the traffic there. Then I moved to BKC, and I realised what real pain is,” they wrote.
Some Tips To Manage Commute
A person working at BKC for the last four years offered tips on managing the daily commute. They suggested that people should arrive at the office before peak hours and leave before the evening rush. “If you travel during peak time, you’re screwed,” they added.
