WWE’s Stephanie Vaquer says she is interested in a crossover into the UFC.
The UFC and WWE are under the parent company, TKO Group Holdings, a merger that has increased the chances of crossover bouts. Several wrestlers have transitioned into MMA including ex-UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar, former Bellator fighter Bobby Lashley, and Jake Hager. With both promotions now under one umbrella, Vaquer’s interest is real.
“I love UFC. I love training in Mexico in a performance center for UFC (with) a really good friend, so I’m a big big fan for UFC and I hope one day we can do something together. I know it’s so different discipline with pro wrestling, but with fighter. My friend, Jaula Bahamondes is a- is famous in Chile. It’s a big (deal), and my best friend, like, in fights you know in wrestling so he understand me about the sport, about the discipline. So yeah, I hope one day we can do something together,” Vasquez said
Implications
For Vaquer, this is a career move that could elevate her profile. She has demonstrated her seriousness by actively training at the UFC Performance Institute in Mexico. Her personal connection to UFC fighter Ignacio Bahamondes also provides a tangible link to the world of MMA. A successful crossover would not only add a unique accomplishment to her resume but would also set a precedent for other WWE stars to follow.
For TKO Group Holdings, Vaquer’s interest in a crossover is a perfect example of the route they hoped to create with the merger. The company now has an unprecedented opportunity to leverage talent from both sides of the business for cross-promotional events. For example, a “super-fight” featuring Vaquer could draw fans from both the wrestling and MMA worlds, creating a new, massive revenue stream. This model, which was also seen with Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler’s transitions to WWE, can be used to promote both brands.
