Pakistan, Iran agree to remove impediments to border trade

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Iran have agreed to remove obstacles hindering bilateral trade and economic ties between the two neighbours.

In a significant move aimed at strengthening economic ties, Maqbool Alam Noori, Secretary General of the Pakistan Business Forum (PBF), held a crucial meeting with Mohammad-Ali Dehghan Dehnavi, the Head of Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization (TPO), said a statement released here on Tuesday. The high-level talks, which took place in Tehran, were focused on resolving key issues hindering bilateral trade, particularly at the Gabd-Rimdan border crossing and with broader transit trade.

The meeting underscores the mutual commitment of both Pakistan and Iran to overcome persistent obstacles and fully unlock the vast potential of their trade relationship. Discussions centered on operational bottlenecks and infrastructure challenges at the Gabd-Rimdan border, which is a vital gateway for cross-border commerce.

“Our goal is to create a seamless and efficient trade environment that benefits both our nations,” said Noori.

“We are working closely with our Iranian counterparts to address the practical issues that affect traders daily, from improving road connectivity to streamlining customs procedures.”

Dehghan Dehnavi of the TPO emphasized the importance of a cooperative approach. “This meeting is a testament to the strong will on both sides to enhance our economic partnership,” he stated.

“By focusing on improving our border infrastructure and addressing transit trade problems, we can significantly boost our trade volume and foster greater prosperity for our people.”

Both officials agreed on the need to improve logistical and transportation networks to facilitate the smooth flow of goods. They acknowledged that a stronger trade partnership between Pakistan and Iran is crucial for regional economic stability and can serve as a model for cooperation.

The meeting is part of a series of ongoing dialogues aimed at translating the shared vision of enhanced bilateral trade into tangible results. With both countries committed to a long-term strategy, the discussions are expected to pave the way for a more robust and efficient trade corridor between Pakistan and Iran.
