Withings Sleep Analyzer: Review in brief
The Withings Sleep analyzer is a discreet under-mattress pad that tracks your sleep without even touching your body. You set it up once and forget it’s there while it keeps tabs on your sleep stats.

The mat simply slides under your mattress and automatically sends data to your phone throughout the night. In the morning, you can view various stats about your nighttime movements and sleep habits.
A study of over 400 nights evaluating the performance of the Withings Sleep compared to polysomnography (the gold-standard medical sleep study) found the under mattress tracker’s sleep-wake classification accuracy was 83%.

So, I put it to the test, comparing the sleep data it gave me over a two week period with stats from my Oura Ring 4 and my own sleep diary.

Ultimately, if you hate wearing a watch to bed but still want to keep tabs on your sleep quality, sleep timing and overnight breathing habits, the Withings Sleep (sold as the Withings Sleep Analyzer in the UK) is a worthwhile investment at $199.95/£129.95.
Here’s my full review after two weeks of testing, covering the ins and outs of the Withings Sleep and the information you need on where it sits in the wider sleep tracker market…
Withings Sleep Analyzer: Price
The Withings Sleep retails at $199.95/£129.95 at Withings; if you’re buying in the US you can get it at the more reasonable price of $164.99 at Amazon.
It is a premium under-mattress sleep tracker and you can find budget alternatives at Amazon, such as the Beautyrest Sleeptracker at $69.99. However the functionality and reliability of the Withings reflect its more premium price point.
In the wider sleep tracker market, the Withings Sleep is priced similarly to other sleep-only trackers like the Garmin Index Sleep Monitor, which retails at $169.99/£149.99.
There is the option to sign up to Withings+ for $9.95/£9.99 per month or $99.50/ £99.99 per year with a month free. Behind this paywall, you’ll have access to an overall ‘Health Improvement Score’ which consolidates all your health metrics into one score, an ECG-powered cardiologist review and AI-driven personalized insights and trend analysis.
While this would be useful for anyone with health concerns specifically related to the heart, if you’re just looking for a reliable sleep tracker, there’s no need to pay the extra fee.
The tracker is shipped for free, comes with a 30-day trial and 2-year warranty and there are financing options available.

Withings Sleep mattress pad: from $169.95 at Amazon
This discreet under-mattress sleep tracker will cost you $199.95 if you buy it at Withings. However if you instead go to third party retailers such as Amazon, you can save $30 and get it for a more affordable $169.95.

Withings Sleep Analyzer: Design
The under-mattress movement-based sleep tracker is essentially a fabric mat (measuring 25″ L x 7.5″ W x 0.2″ H and weighing 350g) that sits between your mattress and bed frame. It should sit at chest level and, needing a solid base to sit on, it is best suited to bed frames without slats.
The mat’s fabric cover can be removed from the sensor and put through the washing machine (note, it should only be air dried, and must fully dry before putting it back on the sensor).
The tracker must be plugged into a power socket, and both Bluetooth and WiFi are required for installation and for data to sync to your phone.
Withings Sleep Analyzer: Features
The Withings Sleep is primarily a sleep tracker that provides data about how long you sleep, the quality of your sleep and nighttime biometrics. But it can also be used to detect sleep apnea.
The tracker uses a pneumatic sensor (which tracks pressure changes), motion sensing and sound detection sensors, and algorithms to track sleep phases, heart rate, breathing rate, snoring and sleep interruptions.
The sound sensor can identify the audio profiles of specific breathing disturbances, such as sleep apnea. In the EU, the Withings Sleep is recognized as a medical-grade sleep apnea detection device. A study published in the National Library of Medicine concludes the Withings Sleep can “accurately detect moderate-severe sleep apnea syndrome in patients suspected of sleep apnea.” However, this sleep apnea detection feature is still pending regulatory approval in the US.

Even so, the Withings has clinical value as it provides an automatically-generated sleep diary you can take to your doctor for any other sleep-related issues, potentially providing a more timely diagnosis and treatment plan.
Withings Sleep Analyzer: Sleep tracking
In your Withings morning report, you can find details about your sleep duration, heart rate, sleep apnea symptoms, snoring, heart rate variability, respiratory rate and nighttime movement.
Plus there’s a graph plotting your sleep stages, any interruptions in your sleep. Withings will sift these metrics into an overall sleep score which gives an indication of how restorative your sleep was.

Your nightly heart rate data reflects how restorative your rest is(Image credit: Withings )

It does this by assessing your overnight breathing quality, a key indicator of restful and restorative sleep, and detecting the intensity and frequency of your nocturnal body movements, which may reflect sleep fragmentation and impact your sleep quality.
Overall, I was impressed by the metrics Withings gave me and felt they accurately calculated my sleep timings and nighttime interruptions with wake periods lining up with my own calculations. I also felt more tired on days when my sleep score was lower the night before.
For example, this was a particularly restless night’s sleep for me where I struggled to drop off (thanks to a heatwave and late evening meal, oops), woke up during the night and stayed awake longer than I usually would. This night, Withings calculated I only spent 35% of the night in restorative sleep stages (deep and REM) and I felt the lack of restorative sleep the following day.

My poor sleep score was reflected in low energy levels (Image credit: Withings)
This, on the other hand, was a much better night’s sleep for me after, reflected in my higher sleep score of 84. This night I prioritized following a relaxing routine, and started to wind down earlier in the evening. Although my sleep duration wasn’t hugely different, Withings shows the quality of my sleep improved and I felt more refreshed upon waking.

My sleep score improved after I followed Withings’ advice (Image credit: Withings)
There were a couple of occasions where it mistook time in bed for time asleep, but this was only by around 10 minutes — hardly a huge deal. With a mattress wedged between your sleeping body and the tracking sensors, it does a pretty good job of detecting your nighttime movements, breathing and sleep habits.
One thing to be aware of is that the tracker can’t always differentiate between you lounging in bed in the day or you taking a daytime nap, which can affect your sleep scores.
Withings also provides basic sleep tips along the way, reminding you of the importance of sleep regularity and maintaining a consistent evening routine with minimal screen time. However, these tips are not as personalized as those you get with other trackers. For example, Oura and Whoop both offer real-time sleep hygiene guidance, thanks to AI algorithms that break down and assess your individual night’s sleep.
Score: 4 out of 5
Withings Sleep Analyzer: Performance
I used our thorough sleep tracker testing methodology over two weeks to assess whether the Withings is a reliable sleep tracker and whether it can actually improve your sleep. Here’s what I found…

Place mat under mattress. Download Withings app. Go to sleep — that’s it, that’s the set up process.

Okay, maybe it’s not that easy (you do have to plug the mat in and enter some details in the app), but it’s hard to go wrong. In the box there’s the actual sleep tracking mat, a USB power adapter and quick installation manual to guide you through.
A big plus is the fact the under-mattress tracker requires minimal maintenance after set up as there’s no need to charge it or indeed remember to wear it each night.
Score: 5 out of 5

The mattress pad connects to the Withings Health Mate app where you can access all your juicy sleep metrics.
The app also pairs to Apple Health or Samsung Health and transfers activity data (if you allow it) so all your health and recovery metrics are in one place.
The Withings app looks less sophisticated than other sleep tracker apps (I’m thinking of Oura and Whoop), but packs all the details you need and is easy to navigate with decent visualizations of sleep trends.
As your sleep data is stored on your Withings account, deleting the app doesn’t erase your sleep history. You will be able to access it again at a later date if you wish.
Score: 3.5 out of 5
Withings Sleep Analyzer: User reviews
Only nine customers have reviewed the sleep tracker on Withings’ US website, while a further 17 have reviewed it on the UK site, and it gets a 4.2 out of 5 star rating from this limited set of reviews. One says: “The data seems reliable and the WiFi connection automatically feeds the health record.”
However another is not convinced that the snoring data is totally accurate. They write: “I snore at night (according to my wife) and there’s never any snoring recorded.”
Over on Amazon, the Withings Sleep sports a 3.8 out of 5 star rating from 2,184 reviewers. The general consensus is that accuracy is good overall but can sometimes mistake time lounging in bed as time asleep. The set up process and app connectivity are praised by Amazon customers.
Withings Sleep Analyzer: Should you buy?
Buy the Withings Sleep Analyzer if…
✅ You dislike wearables: Sitting under your mattress, the Withings Sleep is discreet and tracks your sleep without you even noticing it’s there (or having to remember to put a watch or ring on before nodding off).
✅ You suspect you have sleep apnea: The Withings Sleep Analyzer can help you track your breathing activity through the night and can detect sleep apnea symptoms. You can take this information to your doctor for treatment.
✅ You want a sleep-only tracker: If it’s just a sleep tracker you’re shopping for rather than a daytime activity tracker too, the Withings is a great option.

Don’t buy the Withings Sleep Analyzer if…
❌ You’re tight on budget: At $169 or more, the Withings is not a cheap device and some would argue it’s not worth the money considering you can get wearable health trackers that have fitness and daytime activity tracking too for around the same price.
❌ You want personalized sleep coaching: Withings’ sleep tips are more basic and generalized compared with other wearable trackers that use AI to assess your sleep and offer personalized recommendations to improve it.
