‘We put her on the chair, it will not take time to remove her’: Gen-Z protesters demand resignation of Nepal PM Sushila Karki as…

New Delhi: Gen-Z protesters in Nepal have demanded the resignation of interim PM Sushila Karki as they are angry about the cabinet expansion. The protesters demonstrated and raised slogans outside the PMs residence on Sunday September 14 at night. They alleged that the interim government is selecting ministers without taking the opinion of the protesters. It was led by Sudan Gurung. Gurung had announced the Gen-Z movement in Nepal
Gurung’s threat
Gurung threatened “If we take to the streets again no one will be able to stop us. We will throw you out of the chair where you have been made to sit.”
He also alleged that senior lawyer Omprakash Aryal is interfering in government affairs and has decided to make himself the Home Minister. Omprakash Aryal is considered close to Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah.
PM Karki has appointed Om Prakash Aryal as Home and Law Minister Rameshwar Khanal as Finance Minister and Kulman Ghising as Energy Minister.
Sushila Karki was sworn in on September 12
Karki was sworn in as interim PM three days ago on September 12. During this Gurung bowed down and touched Karkis feet.
36-year-old Gurung had announced a massive protest in Kathmandu on September 8. He is the founder of an NGO named Hami Nepal.
This organisation formed in 2015 is known for providing relief during disasters. Its members have been arranging rescue food and water in emergencies like earthquakes and floods.
3 names finalised for Karki cabinet
For the first time in Nepal the method of selecting ministers will also be completely different. Like interim PM Sushila Karki the ministers in her cabinet will also be selected through social media polling.
According to sources three names have been finalised for the Karki cabinet. Former Finance Secretary Rameshor Khanal has been chosen as Finance Minister lawyer Om Prakash Aryal as Home Minister and former Nepal Electricity Authority chief Kulman Ghising as Energy and Irrigation Minister.
Ghising has also been given the responsibility of two other ministries – Physical Infrastructure and Transport and Urban Development. According to sources the remaining ministerial posts will be discussed later.
