CLAYTON — The St. Louis County Council has a new auditor after the council approved hiring Chompunut “Nina” Vicharnakorn, who brings more than 15 years of experience to the job, according to a news release from the council.
Vicharnakorn has an MBA from the University of Missouri-Saint Louis and is a certified public accountant. Vicharnakorn comes to St. Louis County from the Nidec Motors manufacturing company where she worked for 10 years, according to her online résumé.
The county auditor conducts independent audits of the county’s financial systems. The job is key to uncovering financial mismanagement and weaknesses in the county’s fiscal processes.
Council Chair Rita Heard Days said in a statement that Vicharnakorn’s experience makes her “the ideal choice for county auditor.”
“Her leadership will ensure our financial operations remain transparent and effective, serving the best interests of our residents,” Days said.
Vicharnakorn starts Oct. 6 with a $150,000 salary.
The council fired former auditor Toni Jackson in June because she wasn’t producing promised audits despite having more money in her budget. When the council hired Jackson in 2021, council members asked her to do an internal audit following an investigation that revealed how the county could have uncovered a pay-to-play scheme by former County Executive Steve Stenger.
Jackson never delivered on the internal audit.
