Internet Obsesses Over Rescue Cat Who's Unique Eyes Are 'Just Like That'

A cat dad who wanted to bring home another feline immediately fell in love with one rescue’s unusual look, which quickly captured the internet’s heart.Gavin Treadaway adopted a nearly 7-year-old cat, Miriam, from the Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh on September 7, he told Newsweek via email. Miriam’s picture stood out to him, as her pupils turned outward, but he thought, “with a face as unique as hers, she would be gone in a heartbeat.”However, after visiting, he learned she still needed a forever home. He learned from the employees at the animal shelter that Miriam came in as a stray, which meant they did not have a complete medical history and could not explain what happened to the cat’s eyes, but Treadaway said she responded appropriately to all vision tests. With the vet’s clearance and Miriam having no symptoms of infection, Treadaway determined she would be a perfect match and adopted her. He instantly fell in love with Miriam and her eyes that are “just like that,” showing pictures of her off in a Reddit post under the subreddit channel r/cats.Screenshots from a September 7 Reddit post of an owner’s new rescue cat, Mirium, who has a set of unique eyes.“They think it’s likely something genetic she was born with, but it isn’t causing her any issues that they could detect,” Treadaway said. “I was told to maybe try to minimize her exposure to super bright lights, though, because her larger pupils could be more sensitive to the brightness.”The week with Miriam has gone better than he could have hoped. She immediately made herself at home, as she strolled out of the carrier and plopped right onto her bed. Miriam tried forcing herself out of the room, which he kept her in so his other feline could adjust.“I was a little nervous because my other cat, Zoro, is a very large, energetic, playful boy, and she was a little quieter and calmer when I met her,” he said. The first meeting resulted in a hiss from Miriam, but after a few days, the two are obsessed. Treadaway said she follows him everywhere, initiating playtime. She’ll curl on his lap every chance she gets.Treadaway hopes his experience of taking a chance on a cat that might have something off, like Miriam’s funky eyes, will encourage others to adopt.“It seems scary knowing they could have medical issues or problems later, but she has been the biggest blessing to my life since my other cat,” he said. “She might not look like your standard cat, but she is cute in her own way and as loving as any of them.”Redditors ReactMiriam’s one-of-a-kind look instantly became a hit among Reddit users, and as of Monday, the post reached over 98,000 votes and 2,300 comments.“Her eyes are simply beautiful and unique. She’s special, full of love and a little bit of mischief. So cute!” wrote one person.Another added: “She’s absolutely wonderful and adorable!”Do you have funny and adorable videos or pictures of your pet you want to share?
