The youths of Erakor Bridge have formed a landscaping company called EBRYA (Erakor Bridge Representative Youth Association) Landscape Maintenance Services.
President of the Erakor Bridge Youth Association, Didier Ben, said the main idea behind setting up the company through the association was to tackle unemployment, an issue many young people in the area face after numerous rejections of job applications.
Ben said they have registered the company with the Vanuatu Financial Services Commission and have already secured contracts for their business.
He said there are 105 young people registered under the association, and the group has already managed to install two water tanks in the community for public use.
Since the formation of the company and the work already carried out, Ben has noticed a change in the attitude of the once unemployed youths. He said they are happy to be receiving a regular salary, and their parents are glad to see their children earning money after countless rejections of job applications.
Ben acknowledged the support towards setting up the company and thanked World Vision, Save the Children, Prime Minister Jotham Napat, and Minister Ralph Regenvanu.
He encouraged youths from other areas around Port Vila and Efate not to think what is in front of them is the end of the road. He said opportunities lie ahead, but people need to change their mindsets to recognise them and grasp them when they come.
Ben also called on the community to support youth initiatives as they empower young people positively and help them move forward.
A resident of neighbouring Tassiriki, who asked to remain anonymous, congratulated the Erakor Bridge Youth Association for setting up the business, saying it is an example of strong self-reliance shown by President Ben in finding solutions to unemployment from within the community.
The resident encouraged fellow Tassiriki residents to support the local youths and hire EBRYA Landscape Maintenance Services for small landscaping jobs around the house.
EBRYA is capable of providing general labour and building support services such as assisting in house construction projects, cleaning construction sites after work completion, providing manpower for pig projects, and helping with house moving.
It also offers landscaping services such as grass cutting, planting flowers, weeding, and clearing.
