Kerala confirms 67 cases, 18 deaths from brain-eating amoeba in 2025

A new case of amoebic meningoencephalitis, a rare but often fatal brain infection, has been confirmed in Kerala in a teenage boy from Thiruvananthapuram. The incident prompted the health department to close the swimming pool at Akkulam Tourist Village and collect water samples for testing, as the boy had bathed there with friends the day before, reports IANS.According to the latest Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme data, Kerala has recorded 67 cases this year, with 18 deaths. Kerala Health Minister Veena George stressed the urgent need for strict preventive measures, urging people to avoid bathing or washing their faces with stagnant or polluted water, including water used for cattle.
