Hollywood has just lost one of its greats. The Academy Award-winning Robert Redford passed away at his home in Utah at age 89. Although he founded the Sundance Institute and was known for his political activism, Redford will always be known, first and foremost, as an actor and director.

‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’

Throughout his career, Robert Redford was nominated for a number of Academy Awards, but he only won one for best director for the movie Ordinary People in 1980. However, he received an honor Oscar in 2001 for his work in the film industry.

‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’

In 2014, Robert Redford played Alexander Pierce, a senior officer at government agency S.H.I.E.L.D. in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Redford gave the film a certain gravitas, while it earned him a hefty paycheck from Disney.
