Hollywood has just lost one of its greats. The Academy Award-winning Robert Redford passed away at his home in Utah at age 89. Although he founded the Sundance Institute and was known for his political activism, Redford will always be known, first and foremost, as an actor and director.

From Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid to Ordinary People and Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Quiz Show, we rounded up his most memorable films throughout his career that spanned 60 years in Hollywood.

‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’

‘Quiz Show’

‘Ordinary People’

Throughout his career, Robert Redford was nominated for a number of Academy Awards, but he only won one for best director for the movie Ordinary People in 1980. However, he received an honor Oscar in 2001 for his work in the film industry.

‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’

In 2014, Robert Redford played Alexander Pierce, a senior officer at government agency S.H.I.E.L.D. in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Redford gave the film a certain gravitas, while it earned him a hefty paycheck from Disney.

Robert Redford’s next collaboration with David Lowery is the very underrated The Old Man & the Gun, released in 2018. Redford plays Forrest Tucker, a 70-year-old bank robbery who escapes from prison to take up his old ways to save for retirement. ‘All Is Lost’

‘A River Runs Through It’

Directed by Robert Redford, A River Runs Through It was a box office hit when it was released in 1992. The movie also received a few Academy Award nominations, but, unfortunately, none for Redford. However, it doesn’t take away that the film was masterfully told.
