Are you aging faster than you think? Experts point to these 4 simple challenges that reveal the truth

Experts say our bodies slow down with age — walks get shorter, endurance drops, and our brains don’t feel as sharp. Longevity expert Bill Hanks, founder and CEO of Huemn, explains that as kids, we constantly stress our motor systems by running, climbing, and trying new movements. But as adults, we stop, which makes our motor skills decline, according to the report by Real Simple. Hanks adds that this doesn’t have to happen to everyone. If people keep challenging their bodies in consistent ways, they can maintain sharper balance and motion as they age. Dr. Matt Kaeberlein, CEO of Optispan, explains that motor functions — strength, coordination, balance, and agility — tend to decline with time. It’s not just weak muscles; nerves that carry signals get slower, joints lose flexibility, and sensory systems like vision and the inner ear also wear down. These body changes make reaction times slower and fall more likely. But Kaeberlein points out that lifestyle choices give us more control over biological aging than we think. To test how your body is really aging, as stated in the report by Real Simple. Experts suggest four simple challenges you can try at home:1. Grip Strength Test“Research has shown grip strength to be a strong correlate to overall vitality, independence, and even longevity,” Hanks says.Try opening a jar lid quickly or carry groceries by yourself to see how easy or tough it feels. Live Events2. One-Leg Balance Test (with a twist)“Balance is one of the strongest predictors of fall risk as we age,” Hanks says. Try standing on one leg for one minute, or try to balance while wearing your shoe. If you can do other activities while standing on one leg, that’s a good sign. 3. Strength Test“Muscle mass naturally tends to decline with age, while body fat can increase, which can impact strength, metabolism, and long-term health,” Hanks says. Gradually try heavier ones to check your strength and body composition, as per the report. 4. Dual-Task Walking TestThis checks how your brain and body work together. Walk while doing a mental task like counting backwards or naming animals. “If your gait slows down significantly when you’re counting backwards or naming animals, it can be a sign of early cognitive or motor decline”, says Hanks, as mentioned by Real Simple report. FAQsQ1. What are simple tests to check if I am aging faster?Experts suggest grip strength, one-leg balance, lifting weights, and walking while multitasking to check your body’s aging.Q2. Can lifestyle choices slow down aging?Yes, doctors say regular exercise, balance training, and strength practice can help slow down the effects of aging.Add as a Reliable and Trusted News Source Add Now!
