Coronation Street's Debbie Webster star 'knockout' as 'very special' update flooded with co-star support

Coronation Street star Sue Devaney has been branded ‘knockout’ by her co-stars as she was flooded with support after a ‘very special’ update. The actress, who is much-loved for playing Debbie Webster in the ITV soap, took to social media with a rare post, days after attending the National Television Awards’ 2025 ceremony. Sue, who has played her Weatherfield alter-ego on-and-off for four decades, was shortlisted for the drama performance gong, going up against her Corrie co-star Jack P Shepherd, who is famed for playing David Platt. They were flanked by a number of their cobbles co-stars as the Manchester-based soap stars descended on the capital for the star-studded awards bash. Despite coming away empty handed, Sue has took to social media with an update for fans, who were quick to show their support alongside her castmates. Alongside a picture of herself on the red carpet, sporting a fabulous checked suit, the soap star shared with her followers: “Played out last week at the NTAs. Had a very nice time indeed with all my friends and my husband. Thank you Vivienne Westwood for making me feel very special.” Corrie’s official Instagram page was quick to respond, writing “Superstar” in the comments section. Sally Carman-Duttine, who plays sister-in-law Abi Webster in Corrie, said: “You looked KNOCKOUT.” Bethany Platt actress Lucy Fallon gushed: “gorgeous sue !!!” while Cait Fitton, who is best known for playing Weatherfield’s Lauren Bolton, replied: “And you slayed as always.” Summer Spellman actress Harriet Bibby commented: “Looking beautiful Sue!” Former Corrie actor Jack James Ryan added: “You looked stunning mate.” Steps singer, Ian ‘H’ Watkins added: “Stunner…. In Viv!” Fans were also keen to respond with messages of love and support. @lord_rob_mckay said: “You look stunning.” @theperiodontaltherapyclinic commented: “You look amazing Sue.” @mary.hugh211 wrote: “Looking absolutely fantastic…were sure gonna miss you.” @_kizzylou_ replied: “You looked absolutely incredible!” @ninascakecabin posted: “Wow! You look stunning! Love, love, love!” @lindashea added: “You are PERFECTION Sue… You talented, beautiful GODDESS.” It comes after Sue said life can ‘pull you another way’ as she addressed being happy in her role on the long-running show before she was told of her eventual exit. It’s previously confirmed that the actress will take on a huge health storyline that will eventually lead to a permanent exit from Weatherfield. It was back in April that viewers saw Debbie growing concerned about her memory loss and booked an appointment at a private clinic, believing her symptoms may be related to the menopause. At the end of that month, viewers saw that Debbie was formally given her diagnosis and the neurologist confirmed that there was no medication to treat the illness. Sue, who hails from Ashton-under-Lyne, has now shared how she’d hoped to stay on the cobbles, but was willing to take on the challenge of the storyline once it was presented to her. Speaking to The Sun at the National Television Awards, Sue said: “The thing with life is you end up thinking one thing and then it pulls you another way. “I was quite happy at Corrie as I’d just got married last year and I knew I didn’t want to go on tour and do all that sort of stuff anymore and at Corrie I’m with all my mates. This was the next closest thing to a normal job. “So I loved being here for that but then Kate the producer did come and say ‘look we’ve got this storyline’… I had to think, ‘I’m an actor and I want to act’. And this then became a perfect opportunity to really do that.”
