In an exclsuive conversation with India.com, Arif Zakaria called Shah Rukh Khan juts a ‘co-actor’ when he was aksed that sharing screen with him in My Name is Khan helped him getting more work.
When it comes to Bollywood, a bunch of names command the same reverence and admiration. One among them has to be Shah Rukh Khan. He is not just an actor but an emotion to millions of his fans across the globe. For many actors—whether established or newcomers—sharing screen space with Shah Rukh Khan isn’t just a career milestone, it’s a dream come true. However, there is a notion that sharing the screen with such big names helps other actors in terms of visibility. But not everyone aligns with that thought. Recently, in an exclusive conversation with India.com, actor Arif Zakaria shared his experience working with SRK in the film My Name Is Khan. He said while it was an absolute experience working with SRK, it did not help him gain visibility in the industry.
Arif Zakaria Shares His Experience Working with Shah Rukh Khan
When Arif was asked that his role in My Name Is Khan came at a time when he was transitioning between theatre, TV, and films, so how did sharing the frame with Shah Rukh Khan impact his visibility in Bollywood, and did it open doors to more layered characters for him, he replied by saying, “Not really, the only impact is that those are big films and everyone has seen them.”
Explaining why My Name Is Khan did not help him gain recognition in the industry, Arif said, “I could have a lot of small work and I have done it, which people are probably not even aware of. Toh aisi films ka faida yehi hota hai ke kyunki woh release har jagah hoti hai. They are big films everyone watches. So the only advantage is the scale. It’s big, it releases in all the theaters. Everyone watched the Karan Johar film. So, woh ek tha impact aap keh sakte ho.”
Arif Zakaria Says a Co-Actor is Just an Actor for SRK
Concluding his remark, Zakaria said, “Otherwise an actor is just an actor, so ek co-actor actor hi hota hai. Main koi sone ke glass mein pani nahi pee raha tha that I worked with XYZ. But, the larger context is that since the movie is big, everyone sees it. That advantage you have working in these kinds of films.”
