Thadou Inpi Manipur urges peaceful cooperation on National Highway 2 amid security concerns

Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) issued an official advisory regarding the situation on National Highway 2 (NH-2), reaffirming that the highway belongs to the Government of India and that its obstruction constitutes a violation of fundamental rights. TIM stated that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the Kuki Zo Council (KZC) have reported no untoward incidents affecting commuters, transportation, or the movement of essential goods along NH-2 in the recent past. KZC has formally requested the deployment of central security forces to safeguard the free movement of people and goods on NH-2. In its Resolution No. 2, adopted on July 29, 2025, during a public meeting at Kangpokpi, KZC appealed to the public to extend full cooperation to government-deployed security forces. TIM urges members of the Thadou community to refrain from any form of mob mobilisation, rioting, or highway blockade along NH-2. The organisation also called upon the community not to relate rioting and damaging public property with any kind of political stance and avoid being influenced by provocative messages circulating on social media. TIM reiterates that the United People’s Front (UPF) and Kuki National Organization (KNO) have endorsed KZC’s position. The Suspension of Operations (SoO) Agreement has been renegotiated, and all signatory groups are expected to abide by its terms, avoiding participation in or instigation of highway blockades. Live Events Thadou Inpi Manipur appealed to all community members to maintain peace, respect constitutional principles, and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure the uninterrupted functioning of NH-2 for the benefit of all. Recently tripartite SoO agreement with the Kuki militants has also been extended for one more year after a tripartite meeting between the officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Manipur government, and leaders of the KNO) and the UPF.The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC), an apex body of the tribal community had announced it would facilitate the movement of vehicles and people along the Imphal-Dimapur National Highway (NH-2), one of the lifelines of Manipur.Add as a Reliable and Trusted News Source Add Now!
