Seeking Sister Wife’s Garrick Merrifield shares his unique perspective on women who’ve had multiple partners — and the effect sperm has on them — in the all-new season of the TLC series.
In Us Weekly’s exclusive sneak peek at the season 6 premiere, which airs on Monday, September 22, Garrick and wife Dannielle Merrifield open up about courting their new partner, Lorrana, who according to them, has a sordid romantic past.
“Things really matured [and] started going in a good direction,” Garrick tells the cameras of Lorrana getting to know him and Dannielle. “We kind of hashed out a lot of deep, heartfelt, serious questions that you and her [as well as] me and her [had] especially because I knew she had a past and she had some men treat her really bad.”
Garrick then claims that unidentified studies have “found that after women usually have around five men [as sexual partners] that they just can’t, like, bond anymore.”
He clarifies, “After a woman has, like, five different partners, the chances of her bonding or even having a lasting relationship drops [a] crazy amount. Like just percentage wise.”
Dannielle then chimes in claiming, “It’s the sperm,” which Garrick says is in fact the problem.
“It’s just the sperm being inside of her changes, yeah, the person,” he declares.
While Garrick and Dannielle didn’t expand further on their sperm theory, they did gush over bringing Lorrana into their plural family.
The Merrifields share in the clip that after five months of talking with Lorrana, who is from Brazil, they met her in Jamaica where they spent about a week together. At the end of the trip, Garrick baptized Lorrana “for the remission of her sins” and proposed.
“After being together with her for five days, all of us, I was like, ‘You know, I feel really good about her. God wants me to ask her to be my wife,’” Garrick recalls of the moment while sitting next to Dannielle on the confessional couch.
He adds, “That’s when I asked her and she said yes. I’m very thankful for that.”
Viewers will get to see Garrick and Dannielle’s journey with Lorrana — as well as four other families seeking a sister wife — play out when the TLC series returns later this month.
Garrick and Dannielle previously tried to add a sister wife to their life but had two failed attempts. In the season 6 trailer, which dropped last month, Dannielle confessed to having mixed feelings about her husband hitting it off with Lorrana.
“I’m happy for them. It just makes me feel less tied to Garrick. I don’t know why,” Dannielle revealed in the video, wiping away tears.
Dannielle, however, won’t be the only Seeking Sister Wife star who struggles to accept another person into her family this season.
Fellow returning family Nick Davis, April Davis and Jenny Davis must juggle girlfriend Teresa’s desire to become an official wife this season, with Nick teasing in the trailer, “Polygamy is certainly not for the faint of heart.”
Fans will also meet three new families, including Reise Williamson and Billie Jean Williamson, who want to add a wife while raising their twins.
Matt Johnson and Anjelica Johnson, meanwhile, must decide if their sister wife, Shanay, who has been with them for three years, should officially marry Matt.
Newbies Yessel Peralta and Dani Peralta, on the other hand, don’t see eye to eye on their plural marriage plans.
Dani admitted in the trailer that she doesn’t “want another woman to have a child” with her husband, while Yessel is adamant, he’s ready to move forward with the lifestyle.
Season 6 of Seeking Sister Wife premieres on TLC Monday, September 22, at 9 p.m. ET.
