Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena laid the foundation stone for India’s first government-led ice-skating rink at the Dwarka Sports Complex on Tuesday. The rink, part of the Delhi Development Authority’s (DDA) plan, spans 4,200 square metres and is expected to be completed by May 2026.
The state-of-the-art facility will feature an Olympic-size rink, designed for ice skating, ice hockey, and curling, according to the release. Equipped with modern amenities such as food and beverage outlets, a rehabilitation room, and a sports shop, the rink aspires to offer world-class training and recreational opportunities.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Saxena said that the project will enable Indian athletes to train at par with global standards, strengthening the country’s presence in events like the Winter Olympics and Asian Winter Games.
