Maddur violence: BJP alleges police failure, forms fact-finding panel

Alleging complete failure on the part of police in the Maddur episode, BJP State president B.Y. Vijayendra on Tuesday said the party had constituted a fact-finding team with its leaders under the chairmanship of retired IPS officer Bhaskar Rao.

He told media persons here that the fact-finding team has been asked to visit Maddur to verify the facts and submit a report to the party.

He questioned whether the police had no information about thousands of Hindu activists participating in the Ganesha idol immersion procession in Maddur the other day. “Why were senior police officers not present there? Why did the government create such an opportunity where violence erupted,” he asked.

Mr. Vijayendra said that a team of senior leaders from the BJP, including himself, Leaders of the Opposition R. Ashoka and Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, and former Deputy Chief Minister C.N. Ashwath Narayan, will visit Maddur on Wednesday to instil confidence among the majority community whose sentiments have been hurt.
