This is the heartwarming moment Greenock bin men swapped their lorry license plate to honour an autistic schoolboy who bakes them sweet treats every week . Since May, Jaxx Robertson, who has autism and ADHD, has developed an unbreakable bond with the crew who collect his street’s rubbish after insisting on dishing them out treats every Wednesday. Their friendship with the nine-year-old has now gone viral after the bin men unveiled a personalised plate on their truck, reading “NO1 JAXX”. The touching gesture left his mum Lucy Gallacher, 37, emotional, with two million people online also being moved by the scene . As the bin men pulled up outside the family’s home, Jaxx, who was proudly wearing his custom hi-vis vest with “bin man” on the back, ran out to hand over his latest batch of goodies. But this time, the workers had a surprise for him. They led him round to the front of the truck where the new plate was fixed, showing the world just how special their young pal is. Lucy said: “I had no idea that they were going to surprise Jaxx with a personalised license plate dedicated to him. “They have given him a present before. They once brought him a toy bin lorry and a balloon. He took that bin lorry everywhere – even into school. “We just kept treating them and then this week the registration happened. It was wonderful. They have given us the license plate to keep.” Jaxx has handed out home bakes, bacon rolls, and even creations like a bin lorry made from sweets – which the bin men later shared with other children on their round. Lucy explained: “My little boy struggles with so much in life with his autism and ADHD and this is the one thing that he loves. Ever since he was a wee boy, he was fascinated by bin lorries. He has so many posters of bins and bin lorries in his room. “We have not long moved to our current house. Before, we were in a flat, so he would just wave at them at the window. Since moving, he loves going out to see them in the street. “The idea came about one day where it was pouring with rain. Jaxx felt so bad because they were getting wet and asked me to give them a few sweets. “From there we have been treating them every week. It moved onto bacon rolls and every week Jaxx comes up with something new. “Through being autistic, Jaxx doesn’t have many interests or like doing a lot of family stuff. This gives us something we can do together, that is just him and I.” Now, Jaxx even calls one of the men “Uncle Brian” and shouts “You are my best friend” as the lorry drives away. Their friendship has inspired bigger acts of kindness too. After Dean’s Shortbread sent a hamper for Jaxx which he passed to the bin men, they donated it to local charities. Jaxx immediately wanted to follow their example and has now launched a toy appeal for Children in Poverty Inverclyde , determined to spread the happiness further. Lucy added: “The impact they have had on Jaxx’s life has been crazy. We have nominated the bin men for the Pride of Inverclyde awards. I hope they get it. They deserve it. They are great.” One of the bin men, Davie Millar, commented on their TikTok . He said: “Thank you again bestie for everything. I hope you liked your surprise registration plate! And you are our best friend. Me and Brian appreciate you.” Councillor Michael McCormick, Inverclyde Council’s convener of environment and regeneration, said: “Our binmen do a great job day in, day out in all weather but it’s so heart-warming to see the friendship they have forged with Jaxx and his mum. “Like Jaxx, my young grandson looks forward to seeing the binmen doing their rounds each week and I know the joy they bring to him and the kindness they show. “While the binmen make Jaxx’s day on a Wednesday, Jaxx clearly brightens up their day too. The bond they have formed has brought smiles to so many faces. “As a thank-you to Jaxx and his mum who very kindly keep our bin men fuelled while out on shift, we have invited them for a visit and reception at our recycling depot as our special guests.”
