Kris Boyd has declared the Rangers model broken with the club attempting to “hit the jackpot” with every transfer. The club’s record SPL-era goalscorer insists that just doesn’t work when you are expected to win every week and sees a lack of characters throughout the club to deal with the storm they find themselves in after a horrendous start under Russell Martin . Gers are tenth in the table with the pressure mounting on the new boss as well as chief exec Patrick Stewart and sporting director Kevin Thelwell . And Boyd believes the entire approach, especially to recruitment, has been all wrong has pleaded for an end to the upheaval and the appointment of those who understand what it takes to make the club a success. “The recruitment strikes me as Rangers have tried to hit the jackpot with every signing,” Boyd told Sky Sports. “Bringing in youngsters and hoping they’re going to arrive, do well and then sell them on and run it like that. “That can’t be the case. When you look at any successful business, whether it’s on the pitch or off the pitch, you’ve got people there whether you’ve had a very good season or a bad season, they’re still going to turn up the following year because they won’t leave. “That’s people that know the football club that are there on a daily basis. Celtic have got it in abundance through the spine of their team. Callum McGregor and that, they’re there every year. “Rangers have so much upheaval all the time and you can’t continuously try to hit the jackpot with every payer that you bring in, if it’s for £2million, £3m, £4m and try to sell them for £7m, £8m, £9m or £10m. It doesn’t work like that. “At Rangers the model right now seems to be broken and they’re going to have to fix it very soon because it is not a pleasant place to be or play football right now. “Rangers is a very difficult environment. You need strong characters. It’s a great place when you’re winning, but when you’re not it’s very difficult. And I’m not sure that Rangers have the right characters throughout the club to deal with the pressure that’s going to come.” As for who the right character is to replace Russell Martin should the axe fall, Boyd has three names that are all very familiar when it comes to potentially filling the Ibrox hotseat. He added: “There’ll be loads of names out there. Russell Martin is still in a job, for however long that is, we don’t know. “Steven Gerrard is a name that’s never gone away. I go back to the last time, Frank Lampard’s name was another one that was mentioned. I know he’s doing some wonderful things at Coventry City. Is that out of the equation now? “The obvious one for me is Sean Dyche. Keven Thelwell has worked with him before. He seems to have a lot of say on the players that are coming in as well. “If that relationship is still there with Sean Dyche then I would maybe look to him, because he’s shown that he can build football clubs up. “Right now, Rangers need a strong character that’s going to build it not only on the pitch, but off the pitch and at the training centre. “It just seems to be so broken and disjointed. They’re going to have to find a way to fix it.
