The Airport Authority of India (AAI) organised various programmes on Wednesday to celebrate Yatri Seva Diwas with a series of passenger-centric events to celebrate its commitment to them.
The surprise arrival of actor Rajinikanth, who also joined the celebrations along with airport director G. Sambath Kumar and AAI officials, made the event a colourful one. Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan also joined the celebrations. They posed with a cut out of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
As part of the celebration, passengers were welcomed at the airport in a traditional way, showcasing hospitality and culture. Students of Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women performed a folk dance outside the terminal building and cheered passengers.
A blood donation camp was organised in collaboration with the Indian Medical Association, which was followed by a free eye camp organised by Dr. Agarwals Eye Hospital and health check-up by Royal Care Hospital. AAI also organised a greening drive in which tree saplings were planted on airport compound premises.
While quiz and painting competitions were organised for child passengers, and aviation career guidance programme was held for students of a city school. Passengers, AAI staff, employees of airlines, personnel from Airport Fire Service and Central Industrial Security Force took part in the programmes.
