KUCHING, Sept 17: The Baram Regatta 2025 originally scheduled from Sept 18 to 21 will be postponed to a date that will be determined next year due to unexpected flooding in various parts of Baram.
Chairman of the Baram Regatta 2025 Main Committee Datu Dr Penguang Manggil who is also Marudi assemblyman made the announcement through a press statement.
“This decision was made after taking into consideration public safety factors and advice from the Division and District Disaster Management Committees, with the agreement of the Premier of Sarawak’s Department, and in view of the increasingly concerning flood situation throughout Baram, including Marudi.
“As the , I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused and urge all residents affected by the floods to remain vigilant and heed the advice issued by their respective District Offices,” said Penguang who is also Public Health, Housing and Local Government Deputy Minister.
It is his hope that with the decision agencies such as the District Offices, Malaysian Civil Defence Force, Royal Malaysia Police, Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia, Marudi District Council, and others directly involved in Baram Regatta can now fully focus on assisting residents in Ulu Baram, Tinjar, Marudi, and other areas affected by the flood disaster. —DayakDaily
