Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During his working trip to Namangan region, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Shurariq mahalla in Norin district.
At present, residents of this mahalla face a number of everyday challenges: the roads require repair, there is no street lighting or storm drainage system. More than five thousand people live in the settlement, including 62 low-income families, 118 unemployed residents, and 157 individuals compelled to earn a living abroad.
At the same time, the mahalla’s location along an inter-district road creates wide opportunities for the development of entrepreneurship, trade, and services. Vacant buildings in the area can be effectively used within the framework of public–private partnerships.
The Head of State listened to the residents’ views on the most pressing problems and stressed that the situation would change fundamentally.
“We will transform this mahalla, bringing in the spirit of the New Uzbekistan. The streets will be improved, and the settlement will acquire a new appearance. People will enjoy decent conditions for living, walking, and spending time with their children,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The President instructed responsible officials to turn Shurariq into a model mahalla. A master plan will be developed, providing for the creation of a modern urban environment and conditions for business activity. Land plots will be offered to active residents together with ready-made projects and infrastructure, significantly boosting the area’s economic potential. The mahalla is expected to become a development hub for five neighboring settlements.
Plans include the construction of a modern mahalla center and a recreational zone, the installation of children’s and sports playgrounds, a library, centers for vocational training and foreign language learning, as well as the opening of a bank branch. The school and kindergartens will undergo major reconstruction under the state investment program.
The streets will be paved with asphalt, and decorative and fruit trees will be planted. Old orchards will be replaced with new ones, and residents’ homes will be improved through social contracts.
As the President emphasized, a decree is being prepared to intensify grassroots work nationwide. A total of 5 trillion soums will be allocated from the state budget for the renewal of districts and mahallas. In particular, Kasansay and Norin districts of Namangan region will each receive 100 billion soums, while an additional 5 billion will be directed to the development of two of the most underdeveloped mahallas in each of the other districts of the region.
These measures are intended to turn such settlements into sustainably developing areas and improve the quality of life of their residents.
