This week, mental wellbeing company Calm, who are behind the popular Calm app, announced the launch of Calm Sleep, a new standalone app zoning in on deeper, more personalized sleep support.
Calm has long been one of the top mindfulness apps, and is designed for sleep, meditation and relaxation; helping users manage stress and improve mental well-being and their rest.
Now, with Calm Sleep, the brand is delving deeper into sleep optimization, offering customers personalized sleep plans and access specialized sleep content and stories. There are also tasks to complete that can enhance sleep and the opportunity to sync up with your sleep tracking data.
What’s more, the brand is partnering with sleep earbud creators Ozlo, so you can listen to the content while blocking out external noise. Co-branded Calm x Ozlo Sleepbuds are coming later this year, but the partnership is kicking off now with $50 off the Ozlo Sleepbuds at Ozlo ($349 $299), plus a one-year free subscription to Calm Sleep Premium with every purchase.
Recognising the detrimental effects of stress, scrolling and nighttime anxiety on the population’s ability to get good quality sleep, Calm hopes to bring a sense of peace to bedtime.
“Calm is a global leader in sleep, with more than half our users already turning to us for rest and some of the most widely used content and tools on the market,” said Jon Tien, Chief Product Officer at Calm, in a press release.
“Now with Calm Sleep, we’re introducing a product built entirely around the sleep experience, from daytime habits to nighttime routines. We’re helping people feel more empowered in their sleep journey, not just more informed about it, bringing back a sense of ease and joy to bedtime,” he added.
Calm Sleep: Price
The Calm Sleep is available globally on iOS and can be downloaded from the Apple App Store (soon to be available for on Android.)
It requires a separate subscription from the standard Calm app and the annual subscription fee is $69.99 to “unlock the full experience,” according to the brand, though you’ll get a 7-day free trial upon sign up, so you can try it out before committing.
Existing sleep content on the Calm app will still be available for current subscribers, but if you’re interested in an entirely sleep-focused app packed with content designed to help improve your rest, the Calm Sleep app is the place to be.
Calm Sleep: Features
The key features brought by the new Calm Sleep app include personalized sleep plans, curated sleep audio content, the ability to sync with your trusty sleep tracker and daily tasks to help improve your sleep habits.
At launch, Calm Sleep will feature new Sleep Stories from US nighttime radio host Delilah and Fleabag actor Andrew Scott. You’ll also get access to an existing library that includes 500 Sleep Stories and 300 hours of sleep content. The brand is also promising that any new sleep content will first appear on Calm Sleep for four weeks, before it goes live on the original Calm app, giving users of the new app exclusive first-listen access.
Calm Sleep also promises a personal touch, by providing users with a personalized sleep plan (once you’ve completed an onboarding questionnaire) that includes content recommended for you and tasks that you can complete throughout the day (remember what you do by day affects how well you sleep by night).
A handy visual cue and way to help keep you accountable comes in the form of a “sleep readiness” bar. This will increase as you get said tasks — which are categorized by areas including sleep environment digital hygiene, exercise, stress reduction — done over the course of each day.
And, if you’re a fan of tracking your sleep and analyzing the data, Calm Sleep can sync with wearables through Apple HealthKit, which means you can easily see where you may need to improve your sleep, and take action by utilizing the content on the new app.
