Early College at Guilford has 9 of 17 students in top group

Seventeen high school students from six Guilford County Schools, including the STEM Early College at N.C. A&T and Grimsley High, are semifinalists in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship program.
A majority attend the Early College at Guilford.
They are among the top 1% of students in each state who took the Preliminary SAT as juniors. Finalists, to be announced in the spring, are in the running for $26 million in scholarships.
This places them among more than 16,000 nationally competing for 7,000 scholarships.

Over 1.3 million juniors in about 20,000 high schools entered the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2024 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying, which served as an initial screening of program entrants.
