Major UK supermarket recalls popular item over potentially-deadly allergy risk

A major UK supermarket has issued an urgent recall of a popular item over an allergy risk. Farmfoods is recalling its own-brand Chicken & Spinach Pasta because some packs may contain crustaceans, fish and molluscs which is not mentioned on the label.

This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to crustaceans, fish and molluscs, the Food Standards Agency has warned.

Customers are being advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers.

These notices explain to customers why the product is/products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product. Please see the attached notice.

A spokesman said: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to crustaceans, fish or molluscs do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Farmfoods customer services on 0121 700 7160.

“If you have this product and have any type of seafood allergy or intolerance, please DO NOTconsume the product. Please return the affected product to the store where the product waspurchased for a full refund.

“No receipt is required. We take consumer safety very seriously andsincerely apologise to our loyal customers forthis situation and any inconvenience it may havecaused.

“The best before date and batch code is shown on the bottom right corner of the back of pack.(red square in reference image shows where the location of the best before end date and batchnumbers will be on packaging).”
