There’s a slice of northern Michigan vibe tucked away in Sterling Heights, and it’s packing more than just a caffeine punch—meet Deer Camp Coffee Roasting Company & Outfitters, where locals are finding community along with their cup of joe. Owners Julie and Anthony Majewski have transformed their passion for coffee into a nexus for Michigan-made products, putting a spotlight on everything from local gourmet eats to quaint handmade goods, as described in a Sterling Heights government announcement.
According to the Majewskis, Deer Camp is more than a café, it’s a community cornerstone they’ve been nurturing since 2015, serving a diverse range of customers, not limited to hunting enthusiasts, Deer Camp has become a haven for various locals where everyone with an appreciation for the outdoors and local flavors is welcome, this inclusivity is a core part of their business identity.
In tune with community needs, the coffee roastery extended a helping hand during the pandemic when a local beekeeper suffered hive losses, purchasing seven hives to support his recovery and maintain the partnership, Anthony Majewski shared in an interview published by the Sterling Heights government website. This is just one of the numerous community-oriented actions that have defined Deer Camp, including contributions to the DNR’s Hunters Feeding the Hungry program, first responders’ benefits, and involvement in Toys for Tots.
Recognition for their efforts hasn’t gone unnoticed, Deer Camp was crowned Best Coffee in metro Detroit for the fourth year running and earned the Macomb Hidden Gem award—a testament to their community-driven approach to business, Anthony added that the victories are less about their accolades and more about the community’s endorsement of their collective values and efforts, conveying the sentiment that it’s not just about coffee, but about bringing people together—which is something Deer Camp has been successful at.
