The body of a 21-year-old Delta State University student was discovered “hanging from a tree” on Monday. The incident has prompted an investigation though the authorities have ruled out a foul play.The death of the Mississippi student, identified as Demartravion “Trey” Reed, has sparked significant attention and discussion online. Delta State University Chief of Police Michael Peeler said that there was no evidence of foul play at this time, according to the Mississippi Free Press.Bolivar County Coroner’s office on Trey Reed’s deathIn response to Trey Reed’s death, the Bolivar County Coroner’s office released a statement on September 15, who officials said died by suicide on the Cleveland campus of Delta State University, earlier that day. Many social media posts circulated that Reed had two broken legs and other injuries that would have prevented him from hanging himself.Live Events”At 7:32 a.m., the Bolivar County Coroner’s office was notified by the Cleveland Police Department regarding an unresponsive individual on the campus of Delta State University. At 8:08 a.m., representatives from the coroner’s office arrived on the scene and observed and unresponsive subject hanging from a tree,” the statement reads. “At this current time, we are conducting a thorough death investigation. Based on the preliminary examination, we can confirm that the deceased did not suffer any lacerations, contusions, compound fractures, broken bones, or injuries consistent with an assault. While The Clarion Ledger typically withholds the names of individuals who die by suicide, the university of 2,700 students chose to announce it publicly. Reily Counseling Center,” the university said in a statement earlier in the day.Was there a lockdown?Delta State also canceled all of its public events for the day, including centennial events that were centered around the celebration of the school being founded in 1925. Ennis told the Clarion Ledger Tuesday morning, Sept. 16 that DSU will return to normal operations and classes will resume.”There will be increased counseling services, the chapel open and clergy in attendance, with increased security visible,” Ennis said. He said there have been no decisions made as to when centennial activities will be rescheduled. The Office of Student Affairs reports that peer support services are available at the H.L.
