NFL Draft intel: SEC WR's stock skyrockets after breakout performance

“I’m going to make an early prediction. This guy is going to be in the mix come April for the first receiver off the board,” The Ringer’s Todd McShay said in a Monday Instagram post. “A lot of good receivers in the 2026 class, none that have this guy’s talent.”

WRs who have played for Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel struggle to adjust to the NFL because he doesn’t have them run a variety of routes. Former Volunteers star Jalin Hyatt had just 31 receptions for 435 yards in his first two seasons with the New York Giants.

In a piece published Tuesday, The Athletic’s Dane Brugler downplayed this concern. “Brazzell is no one-trick pony,” the draft expert wrote.

Texas A&M RB Le’Veon Moss

Notre Dame’s Jeremiyah Love (6-foot, 214 pounds) is considered the top RB prospect in the class, but Moss (5-foot-11, 210 pounds) impressed in Saturday’s 41-40 Aggies win over the Fighting Irish.

Moss rushed for 81 yards and a season-high three TDs on 20 carries. Love, meanwhile, ran for 94 yards and one TD on 23 carries. On Monday, the Senior Bowl named the Texas A&M standout Offensive Stock Up Player of the Week.

“Overall, Moss is a physically gifted running back with high-end tools,” The Draft Network wrote in its preseason scouting report. “With additional reps and refinement in vision, patience and pad level, he has the potential to become a starting running back at the next level.”

Expect the No. 10 Aggies (3-0) to lean heavily on Moss — who leads the team in rushing yards (168) through three games — as they enter SEC play. Texas A&M will host No. 22 Auburn in its first conference game on Sept. 27.

Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza

Mendoza — a Cal transfer — may be climbing draft boards amid a hot start. Through three games, the 6-foot-5, 225-pounder has completed 55-of-76 passes (72.4 percent) for 708 yards and nine TDs.

“[Oklahoma QB John Mateer] might be the hottest name among draft-eligible quarterbacks, but Fernando Mendoza is playing as well as anyone at the position,” wrote ESPN’s Matt Miller in a story published Saturday. “I wouldn’t be surprised to start seeing him getting attention from scouts as a potential Round 1 player.”

But Mendoza has faced cupcakes. No. 19 Indiana (3-0) has played Old Dominion (2-1), Kennesaw State (1-2) and Indiana State (2-1). On Saturday, the Hoosiers host No. 9 Illinois (3-0) at 7:30 p.m. ET (NBC/Peacock) in their first test.

The Fighting Illini’s defense features linebacker Gabe Jacas, who has 3.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in three games. If Mendoza can avoid the pass-rusher throughout the matchup, that would be huge for his draft stock.

Ohio State LB Arvell Reese

Reese headlines one of the better linebacking corps in college football. Through three games, he has 20 tackles, two sacks and two passes defended.

“When talking to scouts on the road this week, Ohio State linebacker Arvell Reese was repeatedly mentioned as someone making the jump to another level this season,” ESPN’s Jordan Reid wrote Saturday. “At 6-foot-4, 243 pounds, Reese is a rangy second-level defender who wears multiple hats in the Buckeyes’ scheme.”

Reid believes Reese’s versatility, a trait NFL teams covet, could help him enter the Round 1 conversation. Per Pro Football Focus, he has played 127 snaps (57 run defense, 27 pass-rush and 43 pass coverage) for the Buckeyes this season.

TCU QB Josh Hoover

Could Hoover (6-foot-2, 200 pounds) be one of the biggest risers in the draft? Through two starts, he has completed 48-of-63 passes (76.2 percent) for 621 yards, six TDs and has one interception. His 90.3 QBR ranks third in the FBS.

“It’s only been two games and against some shoddy competition, but I’d argue that no one has looked better on a play-for-play basis than Hoover so far this season,” CBS Sports’ Mike Renner wrote in a story published Tuesday.

Hoover has played North Carolina (2-1) and Abilene Christian (1-2). TCU’s schedule doesn’t give him many opportunities to prove himself against elite competition. Per ESPN’s Football Power Index, the Horned Frogs rank 108th out of 136 FBS teams in strength of schedule.

Helping TCU (2-0) win the Big 12 Conference Championship Game could help Hoover climb draft boards. It’s still super early, but oddsmakers like the Horned Frogs’ chances. As of Tuesday, FanDuel Sportsbook gives them the third-best odds (+600) to win the conference title game.
