AEW doesn’t strike me as the kind of promotion that bases its booking on merch sales. It seems to be the other way around, booking matches and letting the merch sales follow. Clearly, a method Rousey would be a fan of. As for refusing to tap out, while WWE eventually let Rousey get her own way, the wrestlers seem to have a lot more say over creative and the outcomes of their matches in AEW, so I imagine there’d be a lot less pushback if Rousey were to refuse to tap out to someone.
AEW is also framed as being a more real, sports-like product, so the idea of a former MMA champion tapping to an arm bar likely wouldn’t even be considered.
Not only would Rousey signing with AEW be beneficial for Rousey, but it could also solve some problems for AEW. The promotion currently has two champions that are well on their way to feeling like they might be unbeatable, each of them rapidly running out of opponents. Nothing would strike fear into Toni Storm, Mercedes Mone, and the rest of the AEW women’s division quite like Rousey showing up to run riot and win gold.
