Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao extended support to Telangana students who qualified in medical entrance exams but were denied admissions due to the Congress government’s new government order on local category nativity.
Students and parents met Rama Rao at Telangana Bhavan on Monday, explaining that earlier, anyone who studied seven years up to Class 10 was deemed local. Under the new order, only those who studied Classes 9-12 consecutively are eligible. They said many students, after completing Class 10 in Telangana, pursued coaching in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and other States to crack the medical entrance exam. However, they were now being unfairly disqualified under the local category despite securing NEET ranks.
Acknowledging their concerns, the former Minister immediately spoke to the Chief Secretary and asked BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan to lead a delegation on the issue. He stressed that policy changes must include a cut-off date and a transition period, instead of hurting students already in the system. “This problem arose because the government issued orders without considering those who had already studied here till Class 10. A humanitarian decision is needed to protect their future,” he said, hoping that the government will act responsibly.
