Firefighters battle 3-alarm fire at Novelis aluminum plant in Oswego County: Firefighters from across Oswego County were called to a massive fire at the Novelis aluminum plant in Scriba Tuesday night. Foster mom of 4-year-old who was killed by dad: ‘We fought so hard to keep him safe’: Rykelan Brown, 4, had foster parents who loved him. But Cortland County social services forced him to live with his biological father in DeWitt. The dad, Joshua Emmons, beat him to death in March 2024. Nearly everyone wrestled with those truths in a small courtroom Tuesday in Syracuse as Rykelan’s killer — his own father, who had a history of abusive behavior — was sentenced to prison for manslaughter. “The truth is, we fought so hard to keep him safe,” foster mom Sam Adams said at Emmons’ sentencing.

Ahead of Syracuse game, Dabo Swinney defends the state of Clemson football: Ahead of Syracuse’s visit to Clemson this weekend, Tigers’ coach Dabo Swinney spent the majority of his time with reporters on Tuesday launching a lengthy defense of the state of his program. Swinney was prompted to defend the job he’s doing because his team, which entered the year among the favorites to win the national title, has opened the year 1-2. “We’re in a hole,” Swinney said. “We’re in a hole, man. We put ourselves in it and we’ve got to battle our way out. But there’s a path. It’s not like we’re being run off the field. These are good teams.”
