La Mesa police and Heartland Fire & Rescue are partnering to host the annual La Mesa Safety Fair, providing families an opportunity to receive safety information and for children to meet local police and firefighters.
The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the La Mesa Police Department, 8085 University Ave.
The event usually draws 100 to 300 attendees. Many families return each year.
Andy McKellar, emergency preparedness coordinator at Heartland Fire, said that kids enjoy visiting the fire engine and taking photos in the firefighter cab with the crew. Seeing the police equipment, especially the motorcycle, is also a highlight.
The city of La Mesa will host the popular Bike Rodeo too. Bring your bike and helmet, and practice properly riding your bike around the test course.
Safety resources
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will be there to help residents better prepare for disasters such as flooding, earthquakes and fires.
American Medical Response will offer CPR training for community members, and the San Diego Blood Bank will collect blood donations.
The event also includes booths from a number of safety partners, including Rady Children’s Hospital, San Diego County Health & Human Services Agency, American Red Cross, San Diego Gas & Electric, and UC San Diego Health Burn Center.
There will be giveaways and swag too!
